Local Photographer, Brian Nicholson, kicks off the new Mr. Goodyear's Neighborhood podcast! Hosted by Striders Running co-owner, John Wojciechowski, Mr. Goodyear's Neighborhood is the podcast version of Nicholson's "I Am Ogden" book where we explore personalities of Ogden. 

In this first episode, Nicholson chats about his road to photojournalism with a little help from the Weber State University Signpost, his Utah marathon Grand Slam experience, and of course, the personalities and backstory to "I Am Ogden."

John Wojciechowski - Striders Running

Striders Running is celebrating 10 years in business this week! John and Kristen Wojciechowski started Striders in 2004 in Layton, Utah, and have recently opened up a second location in Ogden. Celebrate 10 years in business with Striders. Meet at the Dee Events Center at 8 a.m. to run the Winter Racing Circuit 5k or 10k course.

     

John chats about how the Wojciechowski's signed the lease to Striders before securing their first shoe vendor, expanding to Ogden, the Winter Racing Circuit, running in dirty air, and, yes, his tepid relationship with Eddie Vedder. Listen Now:

In his own words: 

Like many people, I began running later in life in an effort to lose the weight that had piled on as a result of my sedentary lifestyle. But unlike a lot of people, I developed a passion for distance running and ultimately, an unstoppable desire to be on the trails and in the mountains. And most importantly, I learned that I had the ability to run great distances, endure significant amounts of pain and to finish these brutal events near the front of the pack. What started out as a routine path to weight loss, turned into my path to competitive ultra running which opened up a whole new world to me.  

I have a strong desire to share this sport with other people and to help runners realize their hidden potential. I plan to continue being an active ambassador for the sport, while promoting a healthy awareness of our role as stewards of the trails and mountains that all too often get taken for granted right here in our own back yard. I hope to achieve this through my running, racing and writing, in hopes that I can leave this sport better than I found it. - Kelly Agnew
